Vehicle Description

1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III – Mason’s Black over Burgundy Leather, Numbers-Matching V8, New Transmission, One of 2,044

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, built in three series from 1955-1966, was certainly one of the most majestic looking automobiles of that period. This 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III has the best color combination, with its Mason’s Black over burgundy leather. The miles shown are believed to be accurate, and the engine is numbers-matching. A new automatic transmission was installed in April 2022 at a cost of $10,000, and the car has been driven 300 miles since. With no rust, no limo service history, and a very clean underside, this is a superb example of the final Silver Cloud series.

Powertrain

  • Numbers-matching 6.2-liter aluminum OHV V8 (estimated 190-200 net horsepower)
  • No known engine rebuilds – fires right up, no smoke, no leaks or weeps
  • New automatic transmission installed April 2022 ($10,000) – driven 300 miles since, shifts as designed
  • Engine ultimately remained in production for 60 years (final turbocharged Bentley version only recently ended)

Exterior & Body

  • Mason’s Black over burgundy leather – the best color combination
  • No rust – no signs of any rust repairs
  • Silver Cloud III features: redesigned front end with four headlights, lower grille and hood
  • Car has not been pressed into limo service

Interior & Comfort

  • Burgundy leather interior – door panels show some wear consistent with age and miles (not new)
  • All interior wood trim believed original – very good condition
  • All gauges and lighting work – including the clock
  • Heat and air conditioning both work
  • Modern Kenwood aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo installed in original radio location
  • Power windows operate properly
  • Famous Silver Cloud ad claim: “At 60 miles an hour, the loudest noise comes from the electric clock”

Chassis, Suspension & Brakes

  • Body-on-frame construction – massively reinforced welded box-section frame
  • Very clean underside shown in photos
  • Mechanical servo brake assist (licensed from Hispano Suiza) – operates via power take-off from transmission
  • Suspension described as original and in good condition – no needs
  • Brakes work properly but likely need adjustment and bleed service
  • No issues with wheels or alignment – tires described as like new

Rarity & Significance

  • Only 2,044 Silver Cloud III sedans produced (out of ~6,700 total Silver Cloud sedans)
  • Final series of the majestic Silver Cloud line (1955-1966)
  • Numbers-matching engine – believed accurate miles
  • New $10,000 transmission installed April 2022 – only 300 miles since
  • No rust, no limo service – very clean underside

This 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III is a majestic example of the final and most refined iteration of the Silver Cloud line. Finished in the superb combination of Mason’s Black over burgundy leather, this car presents beautifully with no rust and a very clean underside. The numbers-matching 6.2-liter aluminum V8 fires right up with no smoke or leaks, and the new automatic transmission (installed April 2022 at a cost of $10,000) has been driven only 300 miles and shifts perfectly. The interior retains its original wood trim in very good condition, all gauges and lighting work (including the famous electric clock), and both heat and air conditioning are functional. A modern Kenwood stereo has been thoughtfully installed in the original radio location, and the power windows operate properly. The body-on-frame chassis is massively reinforced, and the suspension remains in good original condition. Brakes work but would benefit from adjustment and bleeding. With no limo service history and only 2,044 Silver Cloud III sedans produced, this numbers-matching, rust-free example with a new transmission represents a superb opportunity to own one of the most majestic automobiles of the postwar era.
